What is GPS jamming?
GPS jamming floods the radio frequency that satellites use, so receivers on the ground and in the air lose their position fix. For a drone it shows up as refused take-offs, drift, and an unreliable return-to-home.
What is the difference between GPS jamming and spoofing?
Jamming denies the signal, so accuracy collapses and the aircraft knows something is wrong. Spoofing feeds a fake signal, so the aircraft trusts a false position and flies to it without warning. FLYAWAY detects and shows the two separately.
How do I know if GPS is jammed where I fly?
Open the live map and check your spot. FLYAWAY reads the GPS accuracy that aircraft overhead broadcast and turns it into a colour-coded risk layer, updated every few minutes.
Is it safe to fly my drone during GPS jamming?
In a high-risk area, treat GPS as unreliable. Keep the drone in line of sight, be ready to fly manually, and do not count on return-to-home. In severe jamming, do not fly.
Will my drone fly away if GPS is jammed?
It can. Without a trustworthy fix a drone may drift, refuse to hold position, or trigger a failsafe that sends it the wrong way. Checking the map before launch is the simplest way to avoid a flyaway.

Where does FLYAWAY data come from?
From the open ADS-B network. Aircraft broadcast how accurate their own navigation is, and we aggregate that into a jamming and spoofing risk map. It is advisory only and not a navigation instrument.
How often is the map updated?
Every few minutes, around the clock, so day and night swings in interference are visible as they happen.
Is GPS jamming the same as GNSS jamming?
Mostly yes. GNSS is the umbrella term for satellite navigation (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou), and jamming or spoofing usually hits all of them at once. FLYAWAY reads the overall GNSS accuracy that aircraft report, so the map covers GPS and GNSS interference together.
How is FLYAWAY different from Flightradar24 or GPSJam?

What causes GPS jamming?
Most of the interference over Europe comes from military electronic warfare, much of it around Kaliningrad and the war in Ukraine. Jammers drown out the weak satellite signal, while spoofers broadcast a stronger fake one. It is rarely aimed at drones directly, but it degrades GPS for everyone nearby.
Does GPS jamming affect phones, cars and boats?
Yes. The same interference degrades car navigation, ship and aircraft systems, and can even disturb GPS-guided robotic lawnmowers. Phones usually keep a rough position from mobile networks, but their GPS accuracy drops inside a jammed area.
